Marseille signs left back Patrice Evra from Juventus

With five Premier League crowns and a Champions League also won with United, Evra is now seeking to act as a steadying influence at the former European champions, currently sixth in Ligue 1 and 15 points off the top three.

The 35 year old French left-back is in advanced talks with Marseille as he considers a future away from the Turin giants due to lack of game time.

He is also a five-time Premier League victor and had two championship medals with Juventus in Serie A.

Patrice Evra was linked with Lyon but has joined Marseille.

A brief statement from Marseille read: "After having met his medical requirements, Patrice Evra, the French worldwide, signed an 18-month contract with the Olympique of Marseille this Wednesday".

Evra is the club's second signing of the winter transfer window after the arrival of highly rated young midfielder Morgan Sanson from Montpellier on a long-term deal.

Evra left French football in 2006 to move from Monaco to Manchester United, before making the move to Juventus.

"He had a great two and a half seasons with us", Allegri said after Juve secured an Italian Cup semi-final spot, against Napoli, following a 2-1 win over 10-man AC Milan on Wednesday.

"But we talked and we came to this decision".
