2 people test positive for West Nile virus

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit says lab results show two probable cases of the virus, with one of those likely being contracted in New Tecumseth.
Last year, there were five human cases of West Nile virus in the county, Lynch said.
With an upcoming holiday weekend health officials are cautioning people about an increase in West Nile VIrus (WNV) activity in Dane County.
The spray itself is very low in toxicity, according to a news release from the health department, and should not affect or harm local mammals, or even non-target insects.
"It's not nice", Zentner said of the body aches, muscle and joint pain, vomit, diarrhea, nausea and rash.
Officials say people need to take precautions against mosquito bites, with the long Labor Day weekend coming up.
This comes after three mosquito pools and a bird tested positive for the virus earlier this summer.
Most people infected don't get sick, and those who do usually experience mild symptoms. During 2002, the state documented its first human infections and 52 cases were reported that year. In 2006, 4,269 confirmed human WNV cases were reported nationally to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; California reported 278 cases.
"That's partly due to how many mosquitoes have the West Nile Virus and also the conditions", he said.
