The new rate also remained well below the USA rate of 4.3 percent in July.

The number of people describing themselves as employed in the state rose 9,400 to 2,911,600 in July from June.
Over the month, the private sector added 1,500 jobs as gains occurred in construction, financial activities, education and Health Services and manufacturing.
All told, the state's average unemployment rate totaled 5 percent. There were 3,100 people counted as unemployed one year ago, compared to 2,900 this July.
Arkansas' labor force participation rate - the percentage of the population from ages 16 to 64 that is working or seeking work - has improved by a significant amount this year, Pakko said.
"The rate is down six-tenths of a percentage point compared to July 2016, with an additional 39,229 more employed in the State", said BLS Program Operations Manager Susan Price in a Friday news release.
The state's jobless rate was down from 4.1 percent in July 2016, and Virginia's rate remained below the national rate of 4.3 percent for July 2017. Over the year, information gained 1,300 (+1.5 percent) jobs. The largest increase was posted in trade, transportation, and utilities (+1,500). "This summer, the youth labor force grew by 2.4 million, or 11.6 percent, to a total of 23.1 million in July".
Downtown, the job growth was primarily in the leisure and hospitality sector, which includes positions in bars, restaurants and entertainment venues.
"We're seeing much more positive trends", Walls said.
On a year-over basis, farms lost 1,000 jobs while nonfarm industries added 7,300 jobs, with the biggest gains in government with 4,000 positions. Employment in three sectors declined. Hospitality jobs, for instance, generally don't pay as well, and are generally less secure, than professional work.
