Steubenville courthouse shooter identified as father of controversial YSU player

The suspect gunman was shot dead by a probation officer who returned fire. "I'd say he was the intended target". Once the bullet slugs are removed from the body, it will be determined who shot the suspect.

One suspect has been killed and another is in custody after an OH judge was shot as he walked in front of a courthouse Monday morning, CBS Pittsburgh reports.

Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr was shot several times just after 08:00 local time (12:00 GMT) in Steubenville on Monday morning. Police arrested another man, who was in the vehicle with the suspected shooter, the Herald-Star reported.

The Jefferson County prosecutor identified the attacker as Nathaniel Richmond, but said they had not yet identified a motive.

The chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court is calling the shooting attack on a judge going to work a cowardly ambush.

Officials believe the probation officer hit the suspect.

Mavromatis said the Jefferson County Sheriffás Department, City Police and Ohio State Highway Patrol have done "an excellent job" securing the crime scene and are now working with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to look for shell casings and any evidence.

Steubenville City Manager James Mavromatis tells our NBC affiliate WTOV that Bruzzese was talking after being wounded.

Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital.

The other man who was seen on video in the suspect's vehicle is not being treated as a suspect at this time.

Investigators didn't immediately release further information about the judge's condition or the suspect.

This is a developing story.
