DEVELOPING: 2 Shot Dead at Grambling State University, Search Underway For Suspect

Sutton says there was some sort of altercation before the shooting between an unknown suspect and the two men. Grambling State University did not address the shooting directly on its social media pages, but said Wednesday morning that offices and buildings will be open.

A university spokesman identified the victims as Grambling junior Earl Andrews and Monquiarious Caldwell, both 23 and from Farmerville, Louisiana. "There are no indicators that this incident bears any resemblance to any of the random acts of violence or domestic terrorism that have been experienced around our country in the recent weeks", said Lincoln Parish Sheriff Mike Stone in a statement. The Washington Post also notes the university is historically black, but does not address whether or not the crimes were racially motivated. The local sheriff's department has taken over the investigation from campus police.

During Howard University's homecoming weekend recently, students feared for their safety after an active shooter report.

There's no place for viciousness on Grambling State University grounds.

Authorities believe that an altercation in a dorm room on campus escalated into the shooting, which occurred in a courtyard outside. Andrews was a student at GSU.

"Our prayers are with the victims and their families". The campus was not put on lockdown but students were told to remain alert and stay inside.
