Soulcalibur 6 announced, coming in 2018

The game uses the Unreal Engine 4, but no exact dates for release are given yet.

Previously, the Soul series, including the very first Soul Edge, has been bound to consoles and arcade platforms, only ever breaking those confines to come to mobile phones.

According to Bandai Namco, SoulCalibur VI will have an "epic" story mode, revamped gameplay mechanics, and "dynamic fights enhanced by cinematic-styled combat". We have the samurai, Mitsurugi and one of the main female fighters in the game.

As the developing team promises that SoulCalibur VI will be going back to its roots with original game secrets finally being uncovered and new light will be shed on the franchise as a whole. Mitsurugi and Sophitia are regulars in the series, but now we don't know enough about the game to list the other members on the roster.

The most recent entry in the mainline series, Soulcalibur 5, was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. Players have been able to select characters like Link from Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda in Soulcalibur II and Ezio from Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed in Soulcalibur V. So far, well known characters Mitsurugi and Sophitia are the only ones who have been confirmed to be on the game's roster. According to Bandai Namco, it will "revisit the events of the original Soulcalibur to uncover hidden truths with a diverse lineup of new and returning characters".

Bandai Namco has announced Soul Calibur VI for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One during the 2017 Video Game Awards.

We all knew it was coming.
