Russian Federation says no obligation to comply with USA sanction on N. Korea

South Korea will use a chartered plane to fly its skiers to North Korea for joint training and will not pay the airport fee to the North, as such a payment would violate global sanctions, Seoul officials said Monday.

North Korea is sending athletes, including hockey players for a unified South Korea-North Korea team, to the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea.

Go Myong-Hyun, a research fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, said the thaw in inter-Korean relations could put Trump in a better position in pressuring North Korea, as South Korea also takes a role in staging the pressure campaign.

Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, announced on January 17 that North and South Korea will participate together in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games as a joint team under a joint flag, according to BBC.

Choe's comments come on the same day South Korea's Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon indicated that the country's northern neighbor was planning to hold an "intimidating" military parade to mark the anniversary of the Korean People's Army (KPA) on February 8. President Moon Jae-in of South Korea would have also been acutely aware of the risk this posed to his country.

Amid a reconciliatory mood between the two Koreas, Abe is eager to urge Moon to stay on board with the idea of strengthening pressure on the North rather than encouraging dialogue that could let the isolated state be acknowledged as a nuclear power.

The South Koreans have since said that Trump has both denied reports that a limited strike was being considered and insisted that there would be no such action while North-South talks, the first for over two years, are ongoing.

"South and North Korea should not stop trying to get closer to each other and it is important to try that constantly with patience and deep breath". But the statement was also confirmed by United States intelligence data.
