A recent weather alert from Environment Canada states that freezing rain is expected to fall, starting Sunday morning and ending later in the afternoon. Snow mixed with ice pellets may accumulate 2cm to 5cm by Sunday morning before changing to freezing rain.
The agency said a brief period of snow could be expected following the freezing rain, but not enough for significant accumulation.
Environment Canada is still urging extra caution on the roads, as surfaces could become icy quickly, making for a slippery commute. Those surfaces will extremely slippery under these conditions and in terms of snow, it could be between 2 and 4 centimetres by the end of the afternoon. The freezing rain will likely continue into the evening, with a total accumulation of a few millimetres possible.
Freezing rain will add an icy sheen to Toronto's rooftops, roadways, and sidewalks over the course of Sunday.
