Audi has committed to offering customers 20 fully battery-electric models by 2025. We intend to play a leading role in the tremendous upheaval facing our industry.
Volkswagen's VOWG_p.DE main profit engine developed the bigger 3.0 litre V6 diesel engines used in about 80,000 VW, Audi and Porsche models that in 2015 were found to have been equipped with illicit software and to exceed US emissions limits.
Hinting it will be positioned at the very top of the Audi line-up, the Audi Sport tweet also said the Telsa Model S rival would be the "spearhead of Audi Sport by the year of 2020". One, that it has yet to post any real profits and two, that it is merely enjoying a period in the sun before the "established manufacturers" sort themselves out and enter the electric segment in a serious way. The new flagship model Q8 will hit showrooms this year. For the electric mobility of tomorrow, the brand is collaborating closely with Porsche and Volkswagen. The automaker announced the new model at its annual press conference this week and released a sketch of a prototype version. Production will start early in the coming decade at the Bollinger Hofe site near Neckarsulm.
Audi confirmed its plan to launch a dynamic four-door electric model in 2020, dubbed the e-Tron GT. Brand chairman Rupert Stadler adding: "We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric e-tron GT, and this is how we will take our high-performance brand Audi Sport into the future".
As well as challenging the Tesla Model S, the new Audi is expected to see competition from a new, all-electric Jaguar sedan being developed as a sister model to the recently unveiled I-Pace SUV and successor to the United Kingdom automaker's long-running XJ sedan. This SUV allows fast-charging at up to 150 kW, making it ready for long-distance use again in less than half an hour. Once it arrives, the GT will be Audi's e-tron flagship auto.
The production spec e-tron will be showcased in Brussels later this year before going on sale in 2019.
