Michael Porter Jr. injury update: Missouri freshman will play in SEC Tournament

Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin said Wednesday that Mizzou freshman Michael Porter, Jr., will be ready to play for the Tigers when they open play in the SEC Tournament on Thursday.

The addition of Porter should scare any teams that now are on the one-line who could potentially see Missouri in the Round of 32, as facing an elite talent in the second round is a cruel reward for a successful season.

He suffered a severe back injury in his first game and was expected to miss the rest of the season.

Missouri faces the victor of Wednesday night's Georgia-Vanderbilt game. "I feel good about it'". I don't have it in my head to say, 'He's going to play this many minutes, and that's it.' ... It was about how he felt...for me it was always Mike's decision to play or not play.

"If he's healthy, we're rolling", Martin added. Porter's ability to put the ball in the basket from anywhere helped create all the notoriety, and that's what made the news of his surgery so upsetting.

NBA Draft analysts still project Porter to be a lottery selection. At the end of Feburary, Porter Jr., was cleared for basketball activities. This season, Martin has coached his squad to a 20-11 record that includes a 10-8 mark in conference play.
