Another Nigerian senator dies after brief illness

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital market, Senator Mustapha Bukar (APC, Katsina) died early today after a brief illness.

The President said this while mourning the lawmaker on Wednesday in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu.

"At Party level, we have indeed lost a dependable and loyal Party man who contributed immensely to the growth and strength of our great Party".

The governor of Kastina State, Alhaji Aminu Masari, while paying his last respect during the burial ceremony described the death of the senator as an "act of God".

Mamman prayed Allah to forgive Bukar's shortcomings and grant him Aljannah firdaus.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the Senate President Bukola Saraki and many personalities yesterday mourned Bukar, who died at 63, in a private hospital in Abuja. He retired in 2008 as director of Katsina State Water Board.

I am saddened to learn about the passing of another friend and colleague, Senator Mustapha Bukar.

The late senator was born on December 31, 1954 in Daura.

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, also expressed grief over the death of the senator.

Senator Bruce said, " it has not been approved, it is simply the choice of words, the presidency or the executive can not spend a single kobo on such a mission unless the National Assembly approves that.

"He was a fine gentleman, quite humane, diligent, perceptive and humble. He will be sorely missed".
