Max Holloway: 'Opportunities Like This Come Once in a Lifetime'

According to ESPN, Dana White has said that Ferguson will lose his interim title as a result, meaning the victor of Holloway vs Nurmagomedov will be the new champion. "Blessed" steps up to fight the undefeated Dagestani on six days' notice after Tony Ferguson has withdrawn through injury.

Holloway will attempt to become the youngest fighter ever to hold two UFC titles, and only the second to hold both belts simultaneously.

Would you have preferred to see Brian Ortega fight Khabib Nurmagomedov rather than Max Holloway? You can check out his message here.

Because of that history, Nurmagomedov made sure that he would only agree to face Holloway if it was at 155 pounds for the undisputed title.

In a show of (somewhat) good sportsmanship, Khabib posted on social media saying that he hoped Tony would heal up soon. My manager called me. "I was like...how do you turn down an opportunity like this?"

Holloway, who has never competed at lightweight in the UFC, has hinted at moving up to the weight class as the cut to compete at featherweight has been tough for him.

UFC President Dana White has announced that Ferguson has been pulled from UFC 223, replacing him against Nurmagomedov is going to be UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway. When asked if he would be willing to book the fight a fifth time, White responded, "Hell no". But I said, when the UFC call, I'm only one call away.

"I don't think Conor McGregor could make the weight on six days' notice".

Now UFC fans around the world will be crossing fingers and toes that both Holloway and Nurmagomedov both make weight, then make it to the octagon in one piece.

"Yesterday after training we were going to go home, going to hotel to relax and my brother, Ali, told me he's out", Nurmagomedov said. I think about maybe like [Michael] Chiesa or [Paul] Felder, [Al] Iaquinta, [Anthony] Pettis, somebody because these guys fight with me on the same night.

"I can't wait. This guy is one of the most feared guys you know?"
