Senate Holds Confirmation Hearing For Mike Pompeo To Be Secretary Of State

Questioned by New Jersey Senator Cory Booker about previous use of the slur to describe same sex relationships in a speech during his confirmation hearing, the former Central Intelligence Agency director skirted the issue.

Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey pushed hard on secretary of state nominee Mike Pompeo over his alleged anti-gay views.

"I'm with the president an bad lot", Pompeo said.

"America had worshipped other Gods and called it multiculturalism".

Pompeo never answered the question.

"I continue to hold that view", Pompeo said of gay marriage, though he declined repeatedly to answer whether he believes gay sex is a "perversion".

In addition to homosexuality, Booker also grilled Pompeo on his perspective of Muslim Americans.

Mike Pompeo, proposed as the new secretary of state, said the USA may at some point have to "move past diplomacy" to stop the regime's nuclear programme.

Menendez asked Pompeo about a Washington Post story from past year claiming Mr. Trump wanted his top officials to intervene, during a conversation about Russian Federation and the FBI's investigation. The secretary of state nominee has a noted track record of Islamophobic viewpoints.

Trump's National Security Adviser John Bolton said in a statement that Pompeo is "a talented and experienced public servant" and said the administration needs him as secretary of state "as we support the President and take on some of the toughest foreign policy issues of our time".

Booker's skepticism over Pompeo's suitability for the role is justified because of Pompeo's notorious bigotry and hawkish policies.
