The New York City-based James Beard Foundation's stated mission is "to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone". Kevin Tien of D.C.'s Himitsu was also there as a finalist in the category of Rising Star Chef of the Year, as was José Andrés, who was recognized with the James Beard 2018 Humanitarian of the Year award.

The Oscars of the food world handed out its awards Monday night, and a chef who got her start in Miami took home a coveted medal. Kaysen also opened Bellecour in Wayzata a year ago. Chef Nina was also voted fan favourite on Bravo's "Top Chef: New Orleans" Season 11.
