Rudy Giuliani blasts Michael Cohen, calls former Trump fixer a 'pathological liar'

Trump denied that he knew about the meeting, tweeting on Friday: "I did NOT know of the meeting with my son, Don jr ..."

The Justice Department has been investigating Cohen for months, raiding his home, office and hotel room in April in search of documents related to a $130,000 payment the attorney facilitated before the 2016 election to Stormy Daniels, an adult-film actress who says she had sex with Trump in 2006.

Cohen is reportedly willing to make those claims to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation.

"He's been lying all week".

But Cohen has no paperwork, audio recordings or other hard evidence to back up his story, CNN also reported. "I don't see how he has any credibility".

Michael Cohen, who was until recently Donald Trump's personal lawyer, said last night the U.S. president personally approved a meeting at Trump Tower in which Russians were expected to deliver dirt on Hillary Clinton. His attorney Lanny Davis declined to comment.

"Donald Trump Jr. has been professional and responsible throughout the Mueller and Congressional investigations", Trump Jr.'s attorney told the network. Trump said during a morning tweet storm.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen stands behind Trump after a group of supporters plus vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence laid hands on Trump in prayer during a campaign stop at the New Spirit Revival Center church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, US on September 21, 2016.

It came after Cohen reportedly said Trump approved an infamous meeting between campaign staff and Russians during the 2016 campaign. The emails, which were later released, show that Trump Jr. was offered documents and information that "would incriminate" Clinton and that the offer was "part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump".

According to Giuliani, the 100 or more tapes seized from Cohen prove that "the president did nothing wrong".

President Trump has said that he knew nothing about the sit-down, which was held at Trump Tower, until he was approached about it by The New York Times in July of a year ago.

News also reported that Cohen was willing to speak to Meuller about his claims, citing its own "knowledgeable source" on Thursday night.

The criticism Giuliani is now leveling at Cohen follows a series of reports that have led the President to lash out at his former lawyer. There have been earlier suggestions, from elsewhere, that Trump knew about the meeting.

There is no indication that Mueller would agree to those narrow parameters, however, and Trump's legal team believes a subpoena could be possible if talks break down.

Rudy Giuliani called Michael Cohen a "pathological liar" in a heated CNN interview on Thursday.

On Sunday, Giuliani told CBS that talks since have been interrupted by other issues, including the Cohen matter and Mueller's prosecution of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. Those people denied that Trump had contemporaneous knowledge of the meeting on more than 15 occasions, according to CNN's analysis.

Trump Jr. did, however, make phone calls to someone with a blocked number at the time he was setting up the meeting.

Cohen says on the tape with Trump that he's already spoken about the McDougal-story payment with the Trump Organization's finance chief, Allen Weisselberg, on "how to set the whole thing up".

Mueller, who has led the Justice Department's probe into Russian meddling, is also looking into any links between the Russians and the Trump presidential campaign. The probe is also scrutinizing whether Trump sought to obstruct justice by firing Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey in 2017 and otherwise undermining other Justice Department officials.
