Eli Apple, former Ohio State players react to Urban Meyer investigation

Ohio State University placed head football coach Urban Meyer on administrative leave on Monday as it launches an investigation into allegations that Meyer failed to act on domestic violence allegations against a team employee. In an interview with the sports news site Stadium released on Thursday, Courtney Smith said she told Meyer's wife Shelley Meyer that she was being abused in 2015.

The former assistant, Zach Smith, was sacked last week after an OH court granted a protective order sought by his ex-wife Courtney Smith. But Meyer said he knew nothing of the 2015 abuse allegations until the day he let Smith go. Zach Smith was the team's wide receivers' coach. Ohio State's first preseason practice is scheduled for Friday. "I'll have to fill you in on that later if I can".

Meyer ended up as the Ohio State coach because of a previous football scandal. When Smith chose to get into coaching, it was only appropriate that Meyer was there with a job. It is not clear what contact Meyer had, if any, with university officials about the situation until Smith was sacked last month.

The most recent charge occurred in May, during an incident that occurred when Zach Smith dropped off the couple's son at his wife's home.

Meyer's future with one of the most storied programs in college football depends on how he managed allegations that Buckeyes assistant and recruiting coordinator Zach Smith abused his ex-wife, Courtney Smith - answering the questions of what Meyer knew and when.

Yet here we are, the day after McMurphy reported a story so horrifying it could bring down one of the best coaches in college football history, and some fanatics are blaming the victim. "We are suspending the current partnership with Urban Meyer and removing all related content pending the results of the official Ohio State University investigation". The Smiths separated in June 2015 and divorced in 2016. Charges were never filed in those cases.

Zach Smith was charged in May with misdemeanor criminal trespass. Those photos show bruises, cuts and marks on Courtney Smith. "No, and I asked some people back at the office to call and say what happened and they came back and said they know nothing about it".
