Liverpool 4 West Ham 0: Salah and Mane see off Hammers

Liverpool took on West Ham United in their opening game of the new Premier League season as Klopp's men aimed to get off to a quick start and grab all three points in their bid to challenge for the title.

And now a promising, yet incomplete, squad has become one with few flaws, after the summer signings of Brazilians Alisson (goalkeeper from Roma) and Fabinho (midfielder from Monaco) plus Guinean Naby Keita (midfielder from RB Leipzig) and Swiss maestro Xherdan Shaqiri (winger from Stoke City). You see things in pre-season, but it's different.

"Last season brought wonderful memories and great moments".

It goes without saying that you have lost many points and important results due to goalkeeping errors, not just last season but for many before that too.

"If someone had said it would be another 30 years or so before Liverpool won it again, you wouldn't have believed them".

Overall I would rate your transfer window as 8.5/10, with the only disappointment being not signing an extra attacking player (e.g Fekir).

"We are still very much an "insurgency" - we are a club that has built season-on-season, we have shown a commitment to the development of our players and a commitment to coaching and training".

So we have to invest more, we have to fight more, we have to create more.

West Ham has just one win in 45 appearances at Anfield with the sole victory coming in August of 2015. "It's brilliant. Sturridge had a fantastic pre-season, the best since I've been here, and it gives us unbelievable new options".

Crucially, however, Liverpool looked nearly as comfortable in every aspect of the field, their midfield dominating with the energetic and aggressive Naby Keita impressing on his debut.

The Premier League match between Liverpool and West Ham will be broadcast live on NBCSN and online.

A lot of West Ham fans are feeling optimistic about this season and after appointing a world class manager and spending £100m, it is hard to not be excited. Firstly, our own expectations are always the highest you can imagine - why wouldn't they be?

"Absolutely a good performance, of course", Klopp said of the 23-year-old, who finished the game as a left forward. "We know there is a really positive atmosphere around us", said Jurgen Klopp after they fostered more hope.

It's been a really nice welcome and I obviously liked to come back to England and a club with a huge history, like West Ham. I think Alisson is one of them. "I am sure next Saturday we will see a team that is trying to win".
