Among the health-related features, Apple has added a fall detection option, that will alert emergency services and family members within 60 seconds if you don't respond.
The XS Max can be equated to a "Plus" sized device, packing a supersized 6.5-inch OLED screen into a phone that is roughly the same size as Apple's previous Plus devices, which had 5.5-inch screens. The new phone is about the size of the existing iPhone 8 Plus, but with more screen.
The iPhone XS, an update to last year's model, will stay at $1,000. It underlines what a powerful franchise Apple has created and that the public's love affair with the iPhone is stronger than ever. The handset is the same size at the iPhone 8 Plus, but the screen is significantly larger.
Apple is calling it a Liquid Retina HD display and they say it's the most advanced LCD in the industry. Two are performance cores that are up to 15 percent faster and use 40 percent less power. Buyers get a 12MP sensor alongside optical image stabilization, twice the number of focus points, an improved True Tone flash, and a wide-angle lens.
Apple also pushed the superiority of their cameras, as expected. The new Smart HD capabilities with adjustable bokeh are cool though, even though it sounds really similar to the Google Pixel's computational photography. The front camera is the same as the iPhone XS with a 7MP f/2.2 TrueDepth camera that also supports Portrait Mode and Animoji.
The iPhone XS gets 30 minutes more battery life than the X and the XS Max, 1.5 hours more.
And in the spirit of everything-but-the-kitchen sink, analysts tracking Apple's supply chain also say the company is also working on bringing facial-recognition technology to a new line of iPads and a lower-priced MacBook. There may have been gasps when the price of the iPhone X was revealed past year, and there is likely to be a repeat of this when people hear price tag that will be attached to this phone when it goes on sale.
The new phones, based on last year's iPhone X, are named XS and XS Max. The iPhone XR is available in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB storage variants. Pre-orders will be accepted starting September 14 (this Friday) with launch across several markets set for September 21 (the following Friday). Folks here could be forking out as much as S$2,349 - the price of a decked out gaming computer - to get the best iteration of Apple's latest iPhone.
As with the iPhone X, the new phone has a screen that runs from edge to edge, an effort to maximize the display without making the phone too awkward to hold.
With the new iPhones, however, that adapter is no longer in the box.
Names for the new devices aren't known. After that, you'll pay $49 to replace the battery of any old iPhone model, except for the iPhone X, whose battery replacement fee will go up to $69.
Many of these benefits also found their way into the iPhone XR (October 26), which starts at $750 instead of an exorbitant $1,000.
