SpaceX is on the verge of announcing the name of person who would be the first private passenger on a trip around the moon.
SpaceX is developing the BFR - which stands for Big Falcon Rocket, or Big F***ing Rocket - primarily to help humanity settle Mars and other worlds throughout the solar system.
Maezawa announced on his Twitter and Instagram accounts that he plans to take a select group of artists with him on his trip around the Moon said: "I choose to go to the Moon, with artists", adding then "What will they see?" SpaceX's other major venture thus far, the Falcon Heavy, which is a reusable heavy lift launch vehicle, took almost twice as long to complete than expected. "Yeah, maybe we will both be on it".
Only 24 astronauts have flown beyond Earth's protective magnetic shield, in missions spanning a four-year period from December 1968 to December 1972.
Mr Maezawa, 42, is one of Japan's most colourful executives and is a regular fixture in the country's gossipy weeklies with his collection of foreign and Japanese art, fast cars and celebrity girlfriend. Start Today had shifted to focus more on fashion and apparel, eventually spawning an immensely popular e-commerce site called Zozotown, Forbes reported.
The Japanese billionaire pitched an idea to the California-based company: He wants to make it an artistic collective experience.
'By the way, if you should hear from me please say yes and accept my invitation, ' he said.
"If I'm going to go to space, I'd rather go as far as I can", he said.
Yusaku Maezawa also revealed that he plans on inviting a few artists to come with him. Moreover, he is also known as the one who paid a record of $110 million for a 1982 Jean-Michel Basquiat previous year.
But so far this year, his space firm has also kept up a schedule outpaced only by the Chinese government, making 15 launches with its Falcon 9 rocket. "I don't know if they have the skills to translate that experience in a way that is digestible for the majority of people".
Shotwell also said the full rocket could reach orbit for the first time in 2020 and possibly deliver cargo to the Moon or Mars in 2022.
The latest blueprints mark the final major redesign of the rocket, whose development is expected to cost roughly $5 billion, according to Musk.
After an uncrewed demonstration flight this fall and an in-flight abort test, U.S. Air Force Colonel Bob Behnken and former Marine Corps test pilot Doug Hurley will be the first two astronauts to fly in SpaceX's Crew Dragon.
But for now, the company has yet to fly a human into space.
Branson's Virgin Galactic has sold tickets for about $250,000, which is more than the median home price in the United States. It became the first private company to launch a spacecraft into orbit and safely return it to Earth in 2010, and the first commercial enterprise to fly to the space station in 2012 on a supply mission.
