Britain, France, Germany call for 'credible investigation' into Khashoggi case

Trump said that he had invited Khashoggi's fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, to visit him at the White House and that his staff was working out arrangements with her.

Published reports based on anonymous sources say he was killed by the Saudis. Evidence was later presented suggesting that he had been killed, and that the Saudi government may have been involved in the murder.

Turkey's top diplomat has reiterated a call to Saudi Arabia to allow Turkish authorities to enter the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul for an investigation on missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Former foreign secretary Malcolm Rifkind called on Britain to impose sanctions on Saudi Arabia. It is unclear what those punishments could be, but Trump said he did not want to harm U.S. jobs by halting arms trade.

Jamal Khashoggi has not been seen since last week.

Khashoggi, a USA resident and critic of the Saudi government, went missing more than a week ago after entering a Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

President Donald Trump has said that he will go ahead with the $110 billion arms deal his administration negotiated with the Arab nation. "The answer is for now I am" still going, Mnuchin said.

"The country that can help us get to the bottom of this is Saudi Arabia", he said.

After saying earlier on Saturday there would be "consequences" for Saudi Arabia, he later softened his tone when speaking to reporters. "And you know what, there are other ways of punishing, to use a word that's a pretty harsh word, but it's true".

Global business leaders also are reassessing their ties with Saudi Arabia, stoking pressure on the Gulf kingdom to explain what happened to Khashoggi.

The newspaper's account also did not elaborate on how the Apple Watch synced the information to both the phone and iCloud account.

A representative from Apple, however, confirmed the watches do not have fingerprint entry features, CNN reported on Saturday.

He said he would be "very upset and angry if that were the case" but ruled out halting big military contracts.

Saudi authorities have yet to give a clear explanation of Khashoggi's fate, while several countries - particularly Turkey, the USA, and the U.K - are pressing the case to be cleared up as soon as possible.

On Tuesday, the Turkish foreign ministry said the Saudi consulate in Istanbul would be searched as part of the investigation.

Saudi officials have said that he left shortly afterwards but Turkish officials and his fiancée, who was waiting outside, have said that he never came out.
