Kanye West at the White House hugs, talks with Trump

The President then reportedly said after Kanye's speech, "He can speak for me any time he wants. he's a smart cookie".

West is married to reality television star Kim Kardashian West, who pushed Mr Trump to grant a pardon for a drug offender this year.

Other topics of discussion will include prison reform, how to prevent gang violence and reducing violence in Chicago, Sanders said.

And NBC White House correspondent Kelly O'Donnell tweeted that West said the MAGA hat "gives him power".

Before they adjourned for a roasted chicken lunch, Kanye stood up, walked over to Trump and gave him a bear hug.

"Trump is on his hero's journey right now".

When Mr. West stopped his monologue for a moment, the president commented, "I'll tell you what, that was pretty impressive".

Additionally, West shared the password to his phone (apparently, 0000), compared his rhetorical style to "fine wine" ("it has complex notes to it"), and also announced that he had been misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, as he was sleep deprived instead.

President Donald Trump and rapper Kanye West spoke to reporters in the Oval Office Thursday afternoon before their lunch meeting.

The rapper, who is from Chicago, also urged Mr Trump to abandon stop-and-frisk policing. Mr. Kushner, who serves as a senior adviser to Mr. Trump, has been focused on overhauling the criminal justice system, and one person briefed on the meeting said that Mr. "He looked at my brain", he said.

In a conversation that lasted almost an hour, Trump ricocheted from one topic to the next, commenting on everything from Hurricane Michael to the infamous anonymous New York Times op-ed to Bob Woodward's new book. Chicago reached an agreement with the American Civil Liberties Union of IL in 2015 to curb the practice.

During a visit to the White House today, Kanye shared a bunch of his outlandish ideas to the president while also revealing his iPhone passcode in the process.

"He's a different kind of guy and that's OK with me".

Speaking in front of a dozen cameras, West greeted Trump with open arms and shared his love for him as a "father figure" in his life.
