New Fox hires Hope Hicks as head of communications

Politico reports that Hicks's new position is officially executive vice president and communications director at Fox.

A company known as "New Fox" is being created as 21st Century Fox reorganises with the sale of assets to Disney, to be completed next year. Hicks, a former model, worked on President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign as press secretary and left the administration in February after admitting to telling "white lies" on behalf of the White House in testimony before Congress.

The Fox appointment seems to deepen the relationship between Fox News and the White House, where former Fox News executive Bill Shine is the communications director.

"She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person", Trump said in a statement after her White House resignation, adding: "I am sure we will work together again in the future".

"So happy for my friend", she tweeted. The president has given Fox News more interviews than any other media outlet by far - 33 to Fox News in total, according to CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller. Although he is famous for the term "fake news", Trump has continually supported Fox News and its reporting. It was paired with announcement that Julie Henderson, a 12-year veteran of the company, would step down as head of corporate communications when the Disney deal closes, along with top lieutenant Nathaniel Brown.
