PSV is 0-1-3, and while it would have liked to make the round of 16, the goal probably has shifted to trying to finish in third and enter the Europa League.
Lionel Messi is at it again.
"He's a player you nearly can't stop", said PSV coach Mark van Bommel.
"It was a poorly taken free-kick, but luckily Pique was there".
Speaking at his press conference on Tuesday, Van Bommel said he is focused on getting a win against Barcelona and not on the weekend's league tie against Feyenoord, "We never look beyond the next game and only focus on the match at home to FC Barcelona".
"I'm not entirely sure how Messi scored that goal", said Valverde.
PSV unlucky not to go into the break at least one goal in front after twice hitting the frame of the goal. The reigning Dutch champions are last in the group with one point.
PSV are off to a ideal start in the Eredivisie and are gaining consideration as one of the great Eredivisie teams in history.
Messi is now leading the way with six goals this season in the Champions League, amazingly averaging a goal every 45 minutes.
The No.10 has not featured in the middle of the attack since the start of the Luis Enrique era, before he switched places with Suarez.
Of course, it is in the months to come that Messi's determination to win will be put to the test, but the Argentine is in the kind of form that could drive Barcelona all the way to the final in Madrid next June. This goal is not even a surprise to see anymore from the Argentine but we should not play down just how hard and spectacular this goal is.
The missing players may have contributed to the sometimes disjointed performance.
