Wargroove Releases February 1st on Switch, PC, and Xbox One for $19.99

In another thread on Twitter, Piscatella attributes much of this late-year success to the December 7 release of Super Smash Bros.

A small surprise was also announced in the video: Goat Simulator: The GOATY, When Ski Lifts Go Wrong, and Unruly Heroes were added to the Nintendo eShop for Switch today. Ultimate and the Switch hardware itself sold in quantities that could legitimately be called "record-breaking". Ultimate. The best-selling game of December in the US, SSBU also charted as the fifth best-selling game for the entire year, according to NPD, edging out the PS4-exclusive Spider-Man.

NPD didn't release the exact sales number for Smash, but it gave us enough to roughly figure it out.

Gaming accessories also had a 29 percent increase in December 2018 compared to the previous year, reaching $1 billion. Brawl by over 70 per cent.

"Everyone at Chucklefish is truly humbled by the support we've received throughout the development of Wargroove, and the encouragement to keep going until we were truly happy with the game", the team said in a Chucklefish blog post celebrating the reveal of Wargroove's release date.

Based on upstream supply chain's estimates, Nintendo so far has sold around 40 million units of Switch worldwide. While hardware companies often plan for and begin designing platform successors years in advance, it's still early in the Switch's lifecycle, and it's conceivable Nintendo is still focusing exclusively on Switch as a hardware platform, perhaps looking at iterating upon it rather than succeeding it anytime soon. That meant that Nintendo's software library on Wii ended up leaning pretty heavily towards trying to find that next big casual hit (hello, 30-minute Wii Music presentation at E3) and was ambivalent at best about core games.

Currently, components of Nintendo Switch are stored at the upstream supply chain, waiting to be assembled and shipped with Nintendo's instruction, the sources said. The Switch is already capable of outputting content at 1080p - as it does whenever it is connected to a HD television using the dock, so Nintendo wouldn't even need to update the internals to drive the upgraded display on the Switch 2. When one of these novel experiments does catch on, it opens up a whole new profit stream.
