Irving backtracks on plans to re-sign with Celtics

In Celtics circles, some fear if the Knicks are able to sign Kevin Durant this coming offseason - which is seemingly the team's biggest plan for after the year - the prospect of Irving leaving for NY "could spell trouble for Boston's chances of holding onto" the All-Star guard, according to the report.

Is it possible that Kyrie Irving, now a superstar point guard for the Boston Celtics, could take his talents to Madison Square Garden next season and join up with the New York Knicks?

"Ask me July 1", Irving told reporters who asked about his future, referencing the opening date of National Basketball Association free agency.

The father of New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis says he does not want his son to play for the Boston Celtics, if they were to try to acquire him via trade this summer.

He later added that the Celtics still remain "at the head of the race" regarding free agency. "I love the man that he's becoming, I love the challenges he's accepted and I always wish the best for him".

Meanwhile, the Knicks just shipped Kristaps Porzingis off to Dallas, opening up a boatload of cap space that could allow them to potentially sign two max free agents this summer.

Malik Beasley scored a career-high 35 points, Nikola Jokic had 31 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists, and Denver almost held James Harden below 30 points in a blowout of visiting Houston.

Damyean Dotson scored 22 points and Kevin Knox had 21 for the hapless Knicks, who lost their 12th straight.

"I appreciate the fans, I appreciate the support, but it's really about our team now and what we want to accomplish this season - and that's a championship, so my focus is stuck on that".

The Knicks' new players were not available, so they started Dotson and Kadeem Allen as guards. "You know, I understand that, obviously, we got a lot of younger guys that kind of look up but it's a business, man".

Rumors of Kyrie signing with the New York Knicks instead of the Celtics started before the season and have awakened with his latest comments.

Knicks: Coach David Fizdale said the new players had been in the arena Friday before the game.

Celtics: Al Horford and Gordon Hayward each had 14 points. "I can't personalize that and put that on me", Fizdale said.
