The Championship features 27 of the top 30 golfers in the world including former champions Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed.
Dustin Johnson, United States - DJ was a bit sluggish in his last two PGA Tour events, tying for 45th at Pebble Beach and tying for ninth at Riviera since making the long flight home after winning the Saudi International, but rallied last weekend.
Rory McIlroy set the pace with a superb eight-under-par first round of 63 at the World Golf Championship event in Mexico City and said he was "excited" by the improvement in his putting and attitude on the course. "Next week (Honda Classic) is at home for me, then there's a tournament that I've won eight times (Arnold Palmer Invitational), then another event I've won a couple of times (Players Championship) and then the week after is where I had an unbelievable week previous year (Valspar Championship)".
Shubhankar Sharma has since played at the WGC-Matchplay, Masters and Texas Open.
Jon Rahm, Spain - The Spaniard has finished in the top 10 in all five of his PGA Tour starts this year and could be warming up for this third victory on the circuit. However, his last WGC title came in this event in 2013, when it was played as the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral in Miami. He's got 18 career wins; the next closest pursuer to that record has five.
Rahm sits sixth in the world rankings and has been knocking on the door for a win all year.
Woods missed the Masters for the second year running in 2017 and subsequently underwent spinal fusion surgery in a last-ditch bid to save his career. "I think I've had some success in World Golf Championships no matter where they're played".
Fleetwood has a strong 2018 season, playing very well in majors and WGC events. Well, it can only get better from here, Tiger.
After originally planning a week off before the 100th New Zealand Open next week, Fox is flying to Naucalpan, Mexico City, after gaining a place in the field following the withdrawal of Andrew Putnam. Fleetwood has some nice odds for his ability and I think he could provide a big payout. Fleetwood is off to a slow start to the 2019 season, but I suspect he will get back on track at a course that has suited his game well.
