Liverpool's Mohamed Salah says scoring goals is always on his mind

Shane Long's 50th Premier League goal had put Southampton into an early lead but Naby Keita's first strike for Liverpool ensured the scores were level at the interval.

Liverpool dominated after the break but Southampton defended tenaciously, even if it was lucky when Maya Yoshida appeared to bring down Keita in the penalty area.

"To make a difference and have an impact, that's what me and Milly wanted to do and thankfully we've done that and managed to win the game".

This title race is going to go down to the wire and Salah getting back in his old scoring habits can only be a good thing.

It is the third Premier League game on the bounce that Liverpool have produced a late revival to finish as winners.

Salah is the eighth Liverpool player to score 50 Premier League goals, but his half century arrived in only 69 games, three fewer than Fernando Torres, the previous quickest to the mark. He is so important to us, not only as a player but as a person as well.

The Anfield club smashed the transfer record for a defender when they signed Van Dijk for £75m in January 2018, with Neville admitting the price tag was more than a little inflated for a player who had been top of manager Jurgen Klopp's wanted list for more than a year.

Liverpool after their victory against Southampton tops the point table with 82 points.

The skipper played in a more advanced role and his aggression and desire was clear from the minute he came on, meanwhile Milner astutely calmed things down on the right side of defence. "Overall a big win for us", Henderson told Sky Sports.

The goal came from a Southampton corner, with Henderson sending Salah on a long run through the Saints half, the Egypt forward keeping cool to beat Gunn from the edge of the box.

"Yesterday [Tuesday] we only had a second recovery session but he was involved in that and I heard nothing different that he could maybe not train today". Manchester City's comfortable 2-0 win over Cardiff city in midweek saw them regain top spot, but Liverpool can go back to the summit tonight should they win at St Mary's. It is a hard year for everybody: you'll need to have 70 to75 points to qualify for the Champions League and 90-something to win the title. "But I'm still very proud".

"Super goal from Mo, super run. It was a first goal for Naby, who is working very hard every day in training so to get the start and score a goal was fantastic for him".
